Intro

The BUE Library owns several items; not just books but also CDs, DVDs, dissertations, references, and more in both English and Arabic that are catalogued using the KOHA platform.

If you want to find the location of a book, or other library material in the Library, consult the Library’s Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)*

Searching the OPAC

Basic Search

A Basic search allows you to search the Library catalogue using many search options by: Keyword, Title, Author, Subject, ISBN, Series or Call Number. Simply enter your search term(s), choose any of these types from the drop-down, and then click the “Search” button to perform your search.

Understanding a Catalogue Record

To locate any item, use these four indicators:

(Item Type, Current Location, Call number and Status)

Placing a Hold

If the copies of a book are not available (checked-out), you can Place hold / reserve that book with the help of the librarian at the Circulation desk.

Advanced Search

An Advanced Search allows you to combine more than one search term using Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) and limit by different item types.

Your Library account

You can login to your Library account from the Library Home page by entering your username and password assigned from the librarian. You will then be able to view your:

  1. Checked out items
  2. Renew an item
  3. Fines due
  4. Search history
  5. Reading history
  6. Lists created

Renewing an Item

If you would like to renew your borrowed items you have checked out, the Checked out tab indicates what you have checked out. (There are no renewals on: items that are already overdue for more than 49 Egyptian pounds, or items on-hold for another patron.)

  1. Click the check box next to Renew for each item you want to renew.
  2. Then choose the Renew selectedoption at the top. If you want to renew everything, then choose Renew all.

3. You will get a confirmation of your renewal with an updated Due Date.
